Grade 10 Final Exam — CryoCove Wellness Practice
For Students
This exam covers the Grade 10 CryoCove curriculum across all nine Coaches: Food, Brain, Sleep, Move, Cold, Hot, Breath, Light, and Water. Grade 10 is the applied year — each Coach moves from "How [domain] works" (Grade 9) to "How to live with [domain] thoughtfully" (Grade 10). The exam tests both the science and the practical decision-making it supports.
Read each question carefully. For multiple-choice questions, select the single best answer. For short-answer questions, write 2-4 complete sentences. For the synthesis essay, follow the prompt instructions and cite specific evidence from at least four Coach chapters.
You may not use notes, textbooks, or electronic devices during the exam unless your teacher specifies otherwise.
Exam Structure
The exam is organized into nine Coach sections plus a cross-Coach synthesis essay.
| Section | Coach | Chapter | Points |
|---|---|---|---|
| A | Food (Bear) | Eating with Awareness | 70 |
| B | Brain (Turtle) | Emotions, Decisions, and Self-Regulation | 70 |
| C | Sleep (Cat) | Engineering Your Sleep | 70 |
| D | Move (Lion) | Training the System | 70 |
| E | Cold (Penguin) | Getting Cold Right | 70 |
| F | Hot (Camel) | Practicing with Heat | 70 |
| G | Breath (Dolphin) | Practicing with Breath | 70 |
| H | Light (Rooster) | Living with Light | 70 |
| I | Water (Elephant) | Living with Water | 70 |
| J | Synthesis Essay | Cross-Coach Integration | 30 |
| Total | 660 |
Each Coach section: Part A (10 vocabulary MC, 20 pts) + Part B (10 concept MC, 20 pts) + Part C (5 application short-answer, 30 pts) = 70 pts.
Estimated Time
- Each Coach section: ~60 minutes
- Synthesis essay: ~30-45 minutes
- Total recommended time: ~10 hours, typically administered across 3 to 5 testing sessions of 2-3 hours over a week.
The exam is not designed for a single 90-minute period.
Safety-Critical Content Note for Teachers
Several sections of this exam cover research that has direct safety implications:
- Section I (Water) contains the hyponatremia content. Questions about hyponatremia test student understanding of the mechanism and protective behavior — they are not framed in a way that could be misread as encouraging deliberate dehydration or water loading.
- Section F (Hot) addresses heat illness and acclimatization. Coaches and athletic trainers may find Section F a useful conversation starter with school athletic staff.
- Section E (Cold) centers on the safety architecture of cold practice, including the "never alone" rule.
- Section D (Move) addresses overtraining syndrome and the warning signs of compounding deficit.
Teachers should be prepared for student questions that may follow these sections, particularly around personal sport experience.
For Teachers
This exam is modular by design. Each Coach section is a self-contained file. Teachers may:
- Administer all nine sections + the synthesis essay as a comprehensive final
- Administer a subset of sections if the curriculum was taught partially
- Administer one section per Coach across a longer testing window
